I love my Sunburnt Country

Seasons
Summer burns, winter freezes, ice breaks, rivers flow. Sometimes it rains and sand dunes explode with a riot of colour.
Seasons pass and their interweaving influence lingers. Images become symbols in our memory, influence our imagination, link our external world and internal experience and linger through life.
Landscapes change with the seasons and the time of day, changing with a turn of the eye – always different. We are left with powerful visual images. Caught between our memories and our expectations, they are often simplified and recalled as evocative lines and colours.

This piece refers very closely to the excerpt from the poem –“I Love a Sunburnt Country”- by Dorothea Mackellar. Each side of the box represents one of the images to which she refers:

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,
Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
I love her far horizons,
I love her jewel-sea,
